How to clean out your closet and make some money :)

One of the first things I usually tell someone when they want to start cleaning their closet but are not sure where to start is - would you buy this piece right now? Does it still fit? When is the last time you wore it? If someone doesn't plan on wearing an item any longer but it is still in good shape, you can sell it on ebay, thredup, liketwice or your local consignment shop. Or you can donate it to your local thrift shop.

When I sold items on ebay and I found that the higher price the item (like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Burberry, Christian Louboutin) the more likely it will sell and sell quickly. Most ebayer buyers are savvy and in many cases you can get $100 or more for your designer item. Don't expect to get close to the retail price unless it is currently listed online or it is extremely rare. One of the benefits of selling on ebay is it goes from one fashion lover to another, and you are cleaning your closet, and making a little bit of money. Ebay charges 10 percent of the total selling costs including shipping. If you ship through ebay you can get a discount on shipping and a free tracking number. Of course, there can be issues when selling on ebay such as non-paying buyers. They key is taking clear pictures and describing the items as well as possible.

The advantage of going to thredup or like twice is they do the hard work for you (pictures, posting, shipping) and give you the cash. The problem is, they also take the lion's share of the profits. In some cases, you will get 2-3 dollars per item.

And if you don't want to sell the item yourself but want them to go to a good home you can always take them to your local charity shop.
